Philippians 4:6

November 26, 2008

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. (ESV)

Consider: It’s always a challenge not to be anxious when we are worried, but we are usually anxious when our mind is allowed to think about all the things that could happen, not necessarily what will happen. Instead, we can replace anxiousness with prayer and thanksgiving – then we will be more in control of our thinking. Happy Thanksgiving!

Psalm 31:14

November 25, 2008

But I trust in you, O Lord; I say, “You are my God.” (ESV)

Consider: Does the way I live reflect that I trust God?

Acts 20:35

November 24, 2008

And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” (ESV)

Consider: We are usually taught this at an early age – it is better to give than receive. But, we must also be willing to receive when others choose to give to us. If we don’t receive, how will they ever know the blessed gift of giving?

Ephesians 6:18

November 21, 2008

Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. (NLT)

Consider: No situation is too big or too small for prayer.

Romans 15:13

November 20, 2008

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. (ESV)

Consider: I love the idea that God’s presence gives us “confident” hope, not just a wavering hope.

1 Chronicles 16:34

November 19, 2008

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever! (ESV)

Consider: God’s love doesn’t change – it is a firm, eternal foundation.

Genesis 28:13

November 18, 2008

“Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” (ESV)

Consider: Somehow, God will always see His promises through.

Psalm 30:11-12

November 17, 2008

You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy, that I might sing praises to you and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give you thanks forever! (NLT)

Consider: Only God can truly turn our sorrows into joy!

Colossians 4:2

November 14, 2008

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. (NIV)

Consider: It’s not enough to go through the motions of prayer. We must devote ourselves to it.

Psalm 101:3

November 13, 2008

I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless… (ESV)

Consider: This is easy to say, but definitely something we have to work at.
